Before I even knew the world of Beachbody existed, I spent a lot of quality time with Jillian Michaels. I did the 30 Day Shred, Burn Fat Boost Metabolism, and No More Trouble Zones. These workouts were okay and got the job done, but they sure as heck didn’t get me excited about working out. It still felt like a job to me. Every day, I would force myself to push play, dreading every minute of it. Jillian just didn’t motivate me to do my best.
That’s not to say that her workouts aren’t great- but they just weren’t a great fit for me. In 2011, I heard about Insanity from a few people at work. I remember them telling me how hard it was, but also how much they loved it. Shaun T was great and the workouts made them feel good about themselves afterwards. I decided to try it for myself and I had a very similar experience. I loved the workouts, but they were just too long for me. I was VERY new mom and a full-time teacher and I just didn’t have time for 45-55 minute workouts every day. I skipped so many days because I told myself I just couldn’t fit it in my schedule. At that point, I still had no idea that Beachbody even existed.
I then decided to try out running. So many of my friends were fantastic runners and they loved it. My husband and I did a Couch to 5K program together with the help of our iPhones, and we were soon headed to the running store to get fitted for shoes. Everything was going great for awhile- we even completed our first 5K together (The Color Run). I was learning to love the act of running but didn’t love some of the things that went along with it. Sore knees. Anxiety about running alone on side streets. The less than ideal weather. The knee problems were what eventually caused me to quit. I just wasn’t enjoying it anymore because I was in so much pain.
It was shortly after that when I was introduced to Focus T25. This is the workout that changed my life. Shaun T motivates me in a way that nobody else has, and he certainly looks good while doing it. Ha! The 25 minute workouts fit perfectly into my life, and I was finally having FUN! I found that I was looking forward to working out every single day. T25 made me feel strong and confident again. When I finished the program, I was ready for a new challenge and have since moved on to other programs, however, I always come back to Shaun T when I need a little something extra.
