When Matt and I made the (very hard) decision to move to North Carolina, I had to leave a job that I loved. I felt secure there and I had developed some really great friendships. After doing a little bit of research, and even after transferring my teaching certificates to NC, I realized that going back to teach really didn’t make a lot of sense for our family. I would be taking a HUGE pay cut and would have to send Cole to an expensive day care for the first time in his life. Matt’s income wasn’t that great at the time, but it just made more sense for me to stay home.
There was a pretty big period of time where I felt SO unsure, scared, and unhappy. We were struggling to keep up with our bills and I tried to find ways to earn money. I tutored & babysat kids in the evenings and on the weekends- but that meant giving up our family time. I tried watching children during the day, but couldn’t seem to find a good fit or a good schedule for our family. These things were causing a ton of stress and I honestly dreaded getting up every morning. The amount of money I was making wasn’t even worth it. I looked into places like Target and retail stores, but I was turned down for being “over qualified.” Even if they did hire me, I would have had to work in the evenings and on the weekends and would not have been able to spend time with Matt and Cole together.
I cried. A lot. I couldn’t see myself going back to teaching but I knew that I had it in me to do something great. It was really difficult to even picture what that great thing would be, though. I really needed to feel like I had purpose (not that being a mom didn’t give me purpose, but I AM my own person), and I wanted so badly to contribute to our finances. I wanted the best of both worlds- to be home with Cole while also earning a paycheck. It didn’t seem possible…. until my eyes were opened to the world of Beachbody.
For me, this business represents security. It’s mine. Nobody can take it away from me. Beachbody has become a vehicle for me, but I am building something that is all mine. It takes time and effort- but so would going to a regular job every day. I am confident that I can build this to a level where if Matt ever lost his job, we’d be okay.
Do you have a Plan B? What if you were to lose your job tomorrow? How would you feel and would you be okay financially? You may feel secure in your job but you have no idea what is going on behind the scenes. Matt has been with two companies in the last 3 years that have made HUGE changes that caused people in his department to lose their jobs. Luckily he got out of those jobs right before the changes happened, but what if he didn’t? You could be in the same situation and not even see it coming.
The reality that we live in is so different than it used to be. Business models are changing and people are realizing that they don’t have to spend 8+ hours at a terrible job that they hate. There are options, and getting started costs PENNIES. You no longer have to invest thousands of dollars to start your own business. The RISK is nearly ZERO. You don’t have to quit your full time job to start working on a Plan B. You have the internet and so many opportunities at your finger tips. You can start a website for $5.00 a month. You can start a Facebook business page for free. You can use twitter and instagram to share ANYTHING you want to share – for FREE! Have you ever really given that much thought?? It’s extremely powerful.
This opportunity isn’t just for people who hate their jobs, though. We have lots of full-time working people who love their jobs, but they just want a little bit extra to spend on fun things like travel and clothing. We also have people who just want to save for their children’s futures but can’t do that with their job alone. This isn’t a one-size-fits-all opportunity. It’s what you want it to be.
To be honest, I was terrified to get started. Now? I’m just truly thankful. I’m thankful that I stepped outside of my comfort zone and decided to take a leap of faith. I can now stay home with my son while contributing to our income. Every penny I make is put towards student loans so that we can work faster towards our goal of becoming financially free. It is so much fun to watch those loans disappear more and more every week. If something comes up (like a car repair or a hospital visit), I don’t have to stress about money because I know I get a check deposited from Beachbody every single week. And it’s not JUST about the money. The friendships I have made are stronger than any other friendships I’ve ever had. There is absolutely nothing better than the Beachbody community. We are like family and we support each other through it all. I have become a better version of myself than I ever thought possible- and I’m earning an income doing it.
